Welcome to Beautymone! I’m Simone (aka Beauty by Simone, you get it?). I’m a dog-obsessed, Justin Bieber fan and USA-loving girl living in The Netherlands with my dog Bailey and worked as a Human Resources Consultant until I quit to become a full-time beauty blogger, content creator, and product photographer. 

I understand how the beauty world can be overwhelming with so many different products to choose from; that’s why I’m here to serve you with always honest beauty reviews, expert tips, and real product swatches – helping you find the best beauty products through, another passion of mine, sophisticated product photography. HOW IT ALL BEGAN

the start of Beautymone


I used not to be really into makeup and skincare until I reached the age of 16. Even though I love the look of makeup, I was scared to express myself that way and tried to be as regular as possible in high school. When I turned 18, it all changed pretty quickly. I got my first Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit in Koko K and my makeup obsession officially started lol. 


Since then I started expanding my high-end beauty collection, and slowly but surely I realized I didn’t really have someone to chit chat about beauty with. My real-life friends weren’t that interested in makeup and skincare. I then started a Twitter account in 2016, I believe it was first called @simonexmakeup, to find people that also loved beauty as much as I did. 


Shortly after that, I found people to talk with about new product launches, rave about our favorite products and overall just be excited about everything beauty. I really enjoyed the little community I was a part of, made my love for beauty even bigger and got me thinking; I wanted to share my thoughts about products in more than 140 characters (yes, back in the days we didn’t have 280 characters yet – am I old already?). 

“Should I start a blog? No… who would want to read that?” were my first thoughts. A couple of weeks went by and all of a sudden I was like “but I like writing about beauty, why shouldn’t I just do it? Even if I’m the only person who enjoys that little space on the internet I can call mine, so what?!” and so Beautymone was born in 2018. 


My friend came up with the name Beautymone since it’s a mashup of Beauty by Simone. Most of my friends and family call me Simoon or Moon – in Dutch that sounds like how English people pronounce the ‘mone’ part of Simone if this makes sense – so this actually felt like the right name immediately. Especially since I wanted Beautymone to be an English blog instead of Dutch (in Dutch people would pronounce Beautymone as ‘bee-oe-ti-moo-ne’ not so flattering lol). Why English you may ask? Because most of the online friends I’ve met were from an English-speaking country (UK, US, Australia) or from another European city so to understand each other, English was the way to go.
